Let’s dive right in and take a look at the strategy that is one of the most dangerous – the Fast Mutalisks. Mutalisks are one of the Zerg’s most important unit since StarCraft 1. Their greatest strength is to secure Zerg control over the map – You can’t move freely while the Zerg harasses your bases.

I want to show you two Anti-Muta strategies. Mass Stalkers are one way to deal with Mutas. The most imporant aspect is to never let the Zerg get a critical mass of Mutas or he will just fly towards your army and crush it. Once the Zerg has a big army advantage of Mutas vs Stalkers he no longer has to evade your units.

The best way to use your Stalkers is to make use of the Blink technology. By the way: Blink Stalkers also make a great timing push in the StarCraft 2 Protoss vs Terran match-up as well!

The second option is to build Phoenixes. But never build more of those units than you need to defeat the Zerg or you will lack resources for other units. Experiment and find the best balance between Phoenixes and the rest of your army.

Now on to the other, more general Zerg strategies. The Zerg almost always tries to use Speed to surround and flank your army. That’s why killing off Creep Tumors hurts the Zerg gameplay immensely. That will throw the Zerg back immensely! Without the speed bonus from the Creep the Zerg army can’t get the flank on you and his army will be much weaker if you position your units right.

The last problem is certainly the Nydus worm. Believe me, more than one Zerg player already won a match just by using the Worm to attack the Protoss from two different flanks. Never ever fall for the trick – do not split up your army. You should react like you were playing a StarCraft 2 Protoss vs Protoss match – keep your army together. You can afford to lose one base if it means to make the game deciding push on the map.
